SYNFUME - Aluminum Phosphide
|
| |
The loss of stored grains and crops today amounts to over 2 billion dollars annually which is approximately 40 million tons. This is enough to feed over 200 million people. Besides, insects from tropical and sub-tropical regions are transported along with the food grain and infest the importing country. The most effective method to combat this infestation and save food grain is fumigation.

A fumigant is a chemical that exists in a gaseous state at a required temperature and pressure, which at a sufficient concentration is lethal. Aluminium Phosphide (AlP) is one of the most widely used fumigants and has been popular for the last four decades. It is economical, environment friendly, effective and easy to use.

SYNFUME - Aluminium Phosphide reacts with atmospheric moisture to liberate Phosphine (PH3) gas. The toxic phosphine gas released controls pests in grain flour, plant products, processed food and other stored commodities. It penetrates evenly but doesn't toxify, discolor or impart odour to the stored material. This property of high penetration and high toxicity are vital features of Phosphine gas, which gives a high mortality rate. SYNFUME - Aluminium Phosphide can also be used to safeguard textiles, artifacts etc. from pests besides exterminating beetles in palm trees, rats, snakes and rabbits in their burrows.

Phosphine gas is very environment friendly as in the presence of HO* radicals it breaks down into hypo- phosphites which are beneficial to flora and fauna. The breakdown is generally speeded up in the sunlight.

On hydrolysis, the residue consists of Aluminium hydroxide which is completely harmless. Fumigation procedures with Aluminium Phosphide are very easy and can be handled by unskilled personnel with adequate precautions as prescribed on product label and literature. Aluminium Phosphide tablets contain a pre-determined amount of gas and therefore it is easy to determine the exact dosage. SYNFUME- Aluminium Phosphide remains stable (potent) for over two years if kept hermetically sealed in original containers and indefinitely they are totally protected from moisture.
